很多考生都會(huì)覺得考研英語是很令人頭疼的科目，這不僅僅是因?yàn)榭佳杏⒄Z會(huì)有很多長(zhǎng)難句的出現(xiàn)，還因?yàn)橛泻芏嗟墓潭ǘ陶Z和搭配的使用比較復(fù)雜，比如在考研英語中出現(xiàn)頻率比較多的more than，一直困擾這很多的考生。今天，跨考教育張梅老師就給大家詳細(xì)的介紹一下more than的相關(guān)知識(shí)。

例如在2006年的翻譯真題中，第50題就出現(xiàn)過這樣的考查：

They may teach very well, and more than earn their salaries, but most of them make little or no independent reflections on human problems which involve moral judgment.

首先我們可以看到整句話的謂語動(dòng)詞分別為：may teach，earn， make和involve，接著可以明顯的看到，謂語動(dòng)詞involve的前面有個(gè)關(guān)系詞which，那很顯然這就是由which引導(dǎo)的定語從句來修飾先行詞human problems。定語從句梳理完之后，我們從頭看句子，可以發(fā)現(xiàn)may teach 的主語是they，very well 是副詞做狀語來修飾teach，然后是and連接的與may teach并列的謂語earn，同樣，這個(gè)謂語有個(gè)副詞more than來修飾。

這里出現(xiàn)的more than，大家要特別注意，因?yàn)樵诖蠹业挠∠螽?dāng)中，more than按照字面意思翻譯，就是比......多，那more than earn their salaries就是比掙得的薪水還要多，其實(shí)聯(lián)系前后文，這句話是不通順的。那關(guān)于more than的翻譯，當(dāng)年很多考生都沒有翻譯正確，在這里，more than修飾動(dòng)詞的時(shí)候，我們要把它翻譯成：不僅僅，不只是。

而在2001年的第四篇閱讀理解當(dāng)中，出現(xiàn)的不再是“more than+動(dòng)詞”的現(xiàn)象，而是more than+數(shù)字：

The role of human selection in evolution was formulated only a little more than a hundred years ago, and the selective role of the environment in shaping and maintaining the behavior of the individual is only beginning to be recognized and studied.

這句話是由and連接的并列句，前半句是被動(dòng)語態(tài)結(jié)構(gòu)結(jié)構(gòu)，主語是the role of human selection in evolution, was formulated是謂語動(dòng)詞，only a little more than a hundred years ago是表示時(shí)間的狀語，后半句中the selective role of the environment in shaping and maintaining the behavior of the individual是主語，is beginning是進(jìn)行時(shí)態(tài)構(gòu)成的謂語成分，to be recognized and studied是不定式做賓語，這句話中句子的結(jié)構(gòu)是比較清晰的。在這句話中，more than后面加了數(shù)字，我們往往把它翻譯成：多余......。而前面加了 a little 來進(jìn)行修飾，表示程度的大小。

除此之外，more than 后面還可以加形容詞，這時(shí)候more than本身就相當(dāng)于一個(gè)程度副詞，用來修飾形容詞，比如：

Her performance was more than good; it was perfect.

這句話話中，more than后面加了形容詞good，more than修飾good，我們可以將其理解為“十分，非常”，所以，這里more than good就表示“非常好，很完美”。

上述三個(gè)例子，more than都是放在一起用的，而眾所周知的是，more than是可以分開用的，例如1992年的翻譯真題中第71題：

There is more agreement on the kinds of behavior referred to by the term than there is on how to interpret or classify them.

這是一個(gè)典型的than引導(dǎo)的比較狀語從句，在這里more...than最基本的意思就是“比......多”或者“比......更加”，但是這里直譯的話，就是：有更多的一致意見在這個(gè)詞所指的不同表現(xiàn)方面，較少的一致意見對(duì)這些表現(xiàn)如何解釋或分類，但是這樣就會(huì)顯得比較生硬，所以這里我們可以轉(zhuǎn)譯一下：對(duì)“智力”這個(gè)詞所指的不同表現(xiàn)人們意見比較一致，而對(duì)這些表現(xiàn)如何解釋或分類則有不同的看法。

總之，more than這個(gè)看似比較簡(jiǎn)單的短語，但是當(dāng)其分開使用和連起來使用是，其意義是不同的，而當(dāng)連起來使用的more than后面加的詞性不一樣時(shí)，其意思也是不一樣的，所以，跨考教育張梅老師提醒考生一定要留意這一點(diǎn)。
